William & 玛丽 moves siren test to Sept. 7

威廉玛丽学院将把警报器和紧急警报系统的测试推迟到2011年9月7日星期三。 The test was originally scheduled for this Wednesday Aug. 31, 2011.

“Given what occurred over the weekend with the storm and the fact that many local residents remain without power, we did not want to cause undue alarm in the community by sounding the siren this week,” said Sam Jones, vice president for finance and vice chair of the William & 玛丽 Emergency Management Team.

The drill, which will be conducted Sept. 7 at 12:15 p.m., will include both a test of the campus-wide siren system and the mass notification messaging system. The 120-decibel siren system is stationed above the Integrated Science Center, the William & 玛丽 Law School on South Henry Street and the School of Education building off Monticello Avenue.

In the event of a real emergency, people in the community who hear the siren may check for information and instructions at www.wm.edu. Members of the general public can also receive emergency messages from the College’s mass notification system by following the W&M News Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wmnews and W&M News Twitter page at www.twitter.com/WMNews.
