Each living-learning and special-interest community has its own room selection timeline and application process. Take some time to review the information for all of the programs that interest you.
2025-26 Upper-level Living-Learning and Special-Interest Community Timelines and Applications
If you would like to join the Africana House living-learning community, please complete the Africana House application (doc) and note the calendar below.
- Tuesday, January 21, 2025 (9am): The 2025-26 academic year housing application and contract for returning students goes live.
- Friday, January 31, 2025: Deadline for submitting an Africana House application (.docx) to Professor Chinua Thelwell, AFST Program Director, [[cathelwell]].
- Monday, February 3, 2025: Applicants will be notified of their status.
- Thursday, February 6, 2025: Deadline for students to email acceptance statements to Chinua Thelwell [[cathelwell]].
- Tuesday, February 11, 2025 (5pm): 2025-26 housing contracts due to participate in the returning student room selection process. All Africana House participants must have accepted their housing contract on the housing portal to participate in the room selection process.
- Thursday, February 13, 2025 (Afternoon): Room selection time slot emails for returning students and waitlist notifications sent out by Residence Life.
- Monday, February 17, 2025 (9am): Africana House online room selection - begins in the housing portal.

If you would like to join the Lavender House special-interest community, please complete the Lavender House Application and note the calendar below.
- Tuesday, January 21, 2025 (9am): The 2025-26 academic year housing application and contract for returning students goes live.
- Wednesday, February 5, 2025: Deadline for submitting a Lavender House application.
- Monday, February 10, 2025: Applicants will be notified of their status.
- Tuesday, February 11, 2025: Deadline for students to email acceptance statements to Professor Watkins [[jwatkins]].
- Tuesday, February 11, 2025 (5pm): 2025-26 housing contracts due to participate in the returning student room selection process. All Lavender House participants must have accepted their housing contract on the housing portal to participate in the room selection process.
- Thursday, February 13, 2025 (Afternoon): Accepted participants will receive an email from Residence Life with instructions on room assignment.
- Open Now: Mosaic House application (.docx)
- Applications may be submitted between now and January 31 to the Mosaic House coordinator, Tom Linneman, [[tjlinn]], 804-822-2282.
- Friday, January 31, 2025: Deadline for submitting the Mosaic House Application (.docx) to the Mosaic House coordinator.
- Monday, February 3, 2025: Students notified of their acceptance into the Mosaic House
- Friday, February 7, 2025: Deadline for students to accept invitations to join Mosaic House (emailing the Mosaic House coordinator).
- Tuesday, February 11, 2025 (5pm): Due date for all students to submit a 2025-26 academic year housing application and contract to participate in room selection.
- Monday, February 17, 2025 (9am): Online room selection begins for Mosaic House.
2024-25 First-Year Student Living-Learning Community Timelines Applications
All incoming first-year students are considered for
admittance to the program by the Undergraduate Admission Office — no additional application is required.
- Monroe Scholars follow the New Undergraduate Student Room Selection timeline for early room selection in May/June.
- Monroe Scholars will receive an early room selection time slot to select an available space in Monroe Hall.
- Monroe Scholars are not guaranteed an assignment in Monroe Hall.
- Space in Monroe Hall will be available during room selection in the following priority order until filled:
- Monroe Scholar + Monroe Scholar roommate pairs
- Monroe Scholars not part of a roommate pair
- Monroe Scholar + Non-Monroe Scholar roommate pairs
- In cases where all Monroe Hall spaces are filled or a Monroe Scholar does not choose a Monroe Scholar space during early room selection, Residence Life will email the student a new traditional room selection time slot to take place soon after the early room selection.
William & 玛丽 invites all admitted first-year students to apply to the Sharpe Community Scholars program.
- Sharpe Community Scholars follow the New Undergraduate Student Room Selection timeline for early room selection in May/June.
- Sharpe Scholars are REQUIRED to live in Spotswood Hall and will receive an early room selection time slot to select into a Spotswood Hall space.
- For the requested roommates, please know that they would both need to be Sharpe Scholars to be guaranteed to be able to room together.
