Modernizing & Revitalizing the Residential Experience
William & 玛丽 has initiated a long-term, comprehensive plan to modernize and revitalize its residential and dining facilities. The project, which aligns with the goals of Vision 2026, spans three phases to address aging residence and dining halls and ensure they advance the integration of living and learning on campus.

This animated rendering by VMDO Architects out of Charlottesville, Va., showcases the residence walk in front of the Lemon-Hardy complex. The project, part of an agreement with Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, includes adding a new residence hall to complete the Lemon-Hardy complex and to improve the sustainability of the existing complex buildings.
Current Projects
Facilities reaching the end of their useful lives are being replaced with modern facilities that include shared and flexible social and study spaces, current and upgradable technology and modern climate-control systems. - Cedar Hall
The Cedar Hall design completes a triangle-shaped residential section of campus created by Lemon and Hardy Halls, adjacent to a main campus thoroughfare, Jamestown Road.
- Old Dominion
This renovation adds common spaces and sustainability features, upgrades infrastructure and roofing, installs modern HVAC, replaces windows, doors, plumbing, electrical and fire systems, plus fresh interior finishes.
- West Woods 1 Housing & Dining
The West Woods design shapes a welcoming, residential-scaled village within a highly dense neighborhood in a five-building complex. The plan includes four residential buildings and a dining pavilion.
- West Woods 2 Housing
Part of Phase 2, the Randolph Complex will be replaced with a new residential development that includes approximately 450 beds in a mix of traditional and semi-suite units.
Phase One & Two Timeline
The three-phased project begins with new building to complete the Lemon-Hardy triangle plus residence and dining facilities in West Campus, along with renovations of Monroe and Old Dominion halls.
Spring 2024
Construction begins on Cedar Hall, completing the Lemon-Hardy triangle.
Fall 2024
Renovations begin on Old Dominion Hall. Renovated Monroe Hall opens.
Fall 2025
Cedar Hall, Old Dominion Hall and West 1 Housing & Dining open.
Fall 2027
West Woods 2 Housing opens.
