Service

Reaching out and changing lives.

在整个威廉玛丽学院,学生、教职员工与社区组织和领导者合作,共同学习和实现目标。 Through courses, research projects, student organizations, and individual volunteers, impacts ripple out across our campus and community. Whether these mutually-beneficial, community-driven projects are one-time events or regular partnerships, students learn about the social issue they address in service so they have a background of understanding before beginning to serve.

Together with members of William & 玛丽 and our broader communities, W&M Civic & Community Engagement cultivates equitable and transformational relationships, and provides programming and resources for students to become lifelong community-centered leaders. Through their work, their team envisions a just and sustainable world, thriving communities, and a campus that embraces lifelong civic learning and action.

They have dozens of active partnerships with local community organizations and schools. Here are just some examples of what our students are involved in:

  • 160 W&M students partner with six local schools to serve as tutors, mentors and STEM after-school programmers
  • $60,000 in grant funding is provided to students participating in Community Capacity Internships and completing community engagement projects during breaks and throughout the year
  • Groups of about 12 students each participate in alternative breaks through Branch Out alternative breaks
  • Hundreds of students participate in Service Saturdays, partnering with local community groups like Avalon and the Habitat ReStore for more than 220 hours of impact
  • Through the Civic Leadership Program students learn and practice the skills of active citizenship through course work, direct service, and funded summer community engagement projects
