Cultural Celebrations & Heritage Months

In celebration of the histories and contributions of historically marginalized identities, the Center for Student Diversity commemorates heritage months and identity acknowledgements throughout the year. These recognitions are an opportunity for all members of the William and 玛丽 community to learn more about traditions, customs, contributions, history, and current experiences of our diverse campus community.

February

  • Black History Month - a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of African Americans, recognizing their cultural heritage, enduring legacy, as well as their vital role in U.S history.
  • Women History Month - a time to celebrate and honor the contributions of women to history, culture, and society.

May

  • Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month - a time to celebrate the rich cultures, diverse histories, and significant contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the United States.

June

  • LGBTQ+ History Month - also known as pride month, this is a month long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer history, as well as the history of gay rights/ civil rights movement.

September - October

  • LatinX Heritage Month - also known as Hispanic Heritage month, this is a time to celebrate and honor the history, culture, and contributions of Native Americans.
